Political Correctness

I think there is a place for political correctness in contemporary filmmaking and that is only because contemporary filmmaking is to do with modern times and political correctness is an issue that is currently modern, everyone is bashing on each other, so it wouldn't be incorrect if a contemporary film did have political correctness in it.

PRINCESS BRIDE

What surprised you most about the end of the movie? What surprised me most about the ending was that Humperdinck did not die, I wanted that man to die.

What were there parts of The Princess Bride you found suspenseful? Realistic? Humorous? Romantic? A part I found suspenseful was when Inigo Montoya was battling Count Rugen. A realistic part was when the little boy didn't like the kissing scenes. A humorous scene was when Westley couldn't move his body so Fezzik just had to carry him around. A romantic part was when Westley and Buttercup were reunited all the times that they were.

Do you have any memories of your parents reading to you when you were young? What types of books did you enjoy most? Have you revisited any of your childhood favorites in recent years? I have vague memories of being read to as a little child. I remember reading books like Go Dog Go, Harold and the Purple Crayon, and Corduroy. I have no revisited my childhood favorites for a long time.

Who in the movie did you most identify with and why? I identify mostly with Westley most because everything he does seems to be improvised and I really connect to that seeing as I improvise almost everything I do.

Is the portrayal of Buttercup misogynistic? Is there a pattern in the way that women are portrayed in The Princess Bride? What are stereotypes about masculinity in The Princess Bride? What are the qualities of good men? The portrayal of Buttercup misogynistic and it is like that for all the women in The Princess Bride. Stereotypes of masculinity in the movies are things like they are the higher power, they are stronger, and that they are smarter. The qualities of good men are smart and funny and strong-hearted.

Think about the role of Fezzik in the movie. Andre the Giant played Fezzik. Andre had a syndrome called acromegaly, This condition is a result of excess growth hormone produced by the anterior pituitary gland, and it can result in disfigurement, giganticism, and premature death. Do you think it’s acceptable to use characters such as giants and dwarves in movies and television shows? Should they be defined by their physical appearance onscreen? I think it is acceptable only if the actor is okay with being portrayed as the stereotype. No one should be defined by their physical appearance onscreen or offscreen.

What do the characters’ actions say about perseverance? What motivates them? Do you think internal or external motivation is more important in accomplishing goals? The characters' actions say about perseverance is that in the end it is totally worth all the pain and torture. What motivates them is love and revenge. I think that internal motivation is more important in accomplishing goals because if you're heart isn't fully in what you are doing, you won't do your best.

During the marriage scene, the priest has a speech impediment. Did you find this scene humorous? If so, were you comfortable laughing? I found this scene humorous and I was completely comfortable laughing but I wasn't laughing at the man because of his disability, I was laughing at the irony of the situation.

Many characters in the novel are the best in the world at something. What is Westley the best at? Westley was best at being a pirate and he was also the best at being a total heartthrob.

When we first meet Inigo and Fezzik, they are working with Vizzini to kidnap Buttercup. Later, they become allies of Westley in his efforts to rescue her. What causes Inigo and Fezzik to change . . . or do they really change at all over the course of the novel? I think that just in general Inigo and Fezzik always knew in the back of their mind that helping Vizzini was wrong and after meeting both Buttercup and Westley I think they decided to actually take action and be with the good side because they always felt like that is where they should be but before they didn't really have a place to go so they just went bad.

When Westley confronts Humperdink, he says that he won’t fight to the death but to the pain. Is it crueler to kill someone or leave them alive in their pain? I think it is crueler to leave someone alive in their pain because in my opinion death is just an easy escape from the world and your problems.

Discuss the story Westley tells about the Dread Pirate Roberts. How does this tale within the tale influence your interest in Westley? Is he still the same farm boy from the beginning of the book? This tale within the tale influences my interest in Westley because it shows that he is just more than just what meets the eye. He is not at all to being the same farm boy from the beginning of the book, his character has built up much more than just a boy who says "as you wish".

How should The Princess Bride ultimately be categorized: Satire? Adventure? Romance? Fantasy? Is the title ironic? Does it imply a tame love story or a traditional piece of children’s literature? The Princess Bride ultimately should be categorized as a adventure because an adventure can have many elements to it including love because everyone knows that love is an adventure. The title is ironic and it implies a tame love story more than a traditional piece of children's literature.

My Dad's New Website

Three emotions that I recognize are joy, surprise, and love. The joy comes from the kid as he runs around the beach. The surprise comes from the birds as a crazy kid comes running  towards them, I'd be quite surprised as well. And the love comes from the viewer as they watch a little kid run around, they could feel love because they love to see kids happy and just the over all vide is lovely.
